8 day active journey, between white rocky peaks, green lakes in coastal towns along the blue Adriatic Sea.

Visit famous Montenegrin National Parks Biogradska Gora, Durmitor, Lovcen.

Mountain climbs to the peaks in the Komovi, Bjelasica and Durmitor mountain ranges, for a total of five one-day tours, including the ascent of Bobotov Kuk (2523 m), the highest peak of Durmitor, and of course the highest peak of Montenegro Zla Kolata (2534 m).

What to Expect

In order to fully experience the true adventure and relive the good old times in the former Yugoslavia, the route will take us to the heart of Durmitor, Zabljak. We will breathe fresh air and adapt to life down there in the leisurely Balkan spirit. After first acquaintance with the surrounding peaks, we will embark on a two-day tour, where we will conquer Bobotov Kuk (2523 m). And after that the highest peak of Montenegro Zla Kolata (2534 m).

After refreshment in the Black Lake/Crno jezero, we will head towards the Cursed mountains past the wild canyon of Tara, where we can cool down in the crystal clear water. The name itself predicts a complete wilderness, which we will see for ourselves. After strenuous tours, we will descend to the Adriatic coast, where we will enjoy on Mediterranean coastline.

Itinerary

Day 1Podgorica

We will gather in Podgorica in the evening and start with a meeting at the selected hotel. There is also an option of organized transfer from a nearby airport.

Day 2Podgorica - Piva Lake/Pivsko Jezero - Trsa

Start of the trip in Podgorica, with our first stop at Piva Lake/Piva jezero and ride to the Piva Plateau with views of the Bosnian Maglic and Durmitor. Arrival to Trsa (1450 m) and overnight.

Day 3Trsa - Prutas (2393 M) - Trsa - Zabljak

After breakfast, drive to the foothills of probably the most beautiful Durmitor peak Prutas (2393 m). It takes 2.5 hours to climb, which is reworded with amazing views. Then we head back to the starting point and drive to the Zabljak Winter Sports Center (1430 m). Transport to the Curavac with views of stunning Tara Canyon.

Day 4Zabljak - Bobotov Kuk (2523 M) - Black Lake/Crno Jezero - Zabljak

After breakfast, ride to Sedlo (1908 m) and climb to the highest Durmitor Peak of Bobotov Kuk (2522 m). It takes 3 hours to climb. On the way back to Zabljak, visit the famous Black Lake/Crno jezero.

Day 5Zabljak - Tara - Biogradsko Lake/Biogradsko Jezero - Berane - Plav - Gusinje

In the morning we drive to the famous Djurdjevica Tara Bridge, which is 170 m above Tara (the brave can be reached by zip-line and optional rafting!). We continue to the monastery of the Archangel Michael, continue our drive along Tara to Mojkovac and to Biograd Lake in Bjelasica National Park. There are also preserved virgin forests over which peaks of granite rise, later driving through Berane and Andrijevica. Continue driving past Plav with a view to the foothills of Cursed mountains/Prokletije to Gusinje.

Day 6Gusinje - Vusanje - Valley Ropojana - Zla Kolata (2534 M) - Gusinje

After breakfast we will drive into the glacial valley of Ropojana to Vusanje (1020 m), the last hamlet, then we will have a tiring tour to the highest Montenegrin peak of Zla Kolata / Kollata e Keqe (2534 m), which is also the border peak. Many swear that the highest peak is Bobotov Kuk in Durmitor, which is only fourth in height. However, it is more easily accessible. The normal approach will be via the two abandoned Zarunica and Grlata pastures and the Preslopit saddle (2039 m). 

From there, the final ascent to the summit Zla Kolata awaits us, which means a bad or evil meadow. Not far away is the highest peak of the Cursed mountain, Maja Jezerce, Karanfili, and deep below us the Plav Valley. Descent along the same path, at the end of the 12-hour tour, a stop at Alipasa’s springs, altitude difference of 1500 m.

Or Day 6Gusinje - Grbaja - Volusnica (1879 M) - Popadija (2057 M) - Gusinje

Today We Will Drive To The Famous Grbaja Glacial Valley And Climb To The Volusnica Lookout (1879 M) And The Borderline Popadija (2057 M), Also Known As Talijanka. The Ascent Time Is 3 Hours. Return To The Valley And Overnight.

Day 7Gusinje - Ropojana - Montenegro/Albanian Border - Gusinje - Tresnjevik - Stavna

Explore the picturesque neighboring valley of Ropojana. We will head to the intermittent lake, which lies along the Montenegrin-Albanian border. We will be impressed by the views of the wildly scattered mountains of the Cursed mountains (3 hours hike). After the tour a ride to the Tresnjevik pass (1573 m) and to the tourist settlement Stavna in Komovi (1800 m).

Day 8Stavna - Kom Vasojevicki (2460 M) - Stavna - Kolasin - Skadar Lake/Skadarsko Jezero - Virpazar

Today one of the three magnificent peaks in the Komovi mountain group, Kom Vasojevicki (2460 m), awaits us. The ascent time is 3 hours. In good weather, views of the mountains of Montenegro, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Kosovo and Albania. Return along the same route to Stavna and later drive to Kolasin (1000 m) with a short tour and continue along the picturesque Moraca Gorge to the capital Podgorica and Virpazar by the Skadar Lake/Skadarsko jezero. 

Day 9Virpazar - Crnojevica River/Rijeka Crojevica - Cetinje - Lovcen - Kotor - Budva

On the last day we will drive over the Crnojevic River with picturesque views of the lake and the river. A stopover in the former capital of Cetinje followed by a tour and later a drive along the slopes of Lovcen and the serpentines to ancient Kotor, which we will also visit. We end our unforgettable tour in nice touristic town of Budva.

FAQ

When is your tour booked and confirmed?

The tour is booked or reserved by paying an advance of 30% of the total amount on the account. After receiving the payment, we will send you a confirmation of payment.

What equipment do I need for trekking?

You will definitely need good (ankle high) hiking boots, trekking poles to support your knees, day backpack, some snacks and a light jacket.

Is the tour still on in case of rain?

That all depends on the weather forecast. If there is just some light rain we will still go on trekking. However, if it’s gonna be heavy rain, we will try to move trekking to another most convenient day. In either case, we constantly check weather forecast so we can arrange the best trip for you.

What is included?

In the price is included: all transportation under the program, accommodation with breakfast in hotels or mountain huts, entrance fees to cultural and natural sights, health insurance with assistance abroad, the organization of the trip and the Slovenian escort on the way, counseling and assistance in preparing for the trip, VAT.

Can I rent equipment?

You can rent equipment, but you need to inform us at least 21 days before the start of your program. Our trips are in remote areas where there are no shops or rental services, so we need to provide them from a distance. Please note that rental on the spot is usually not available.

What is NOT included?

In the tour are not included any meals other than breakfast, tips for the local population, extra for a single room, the cost of personal equipment and expenses and risk of cancellation.

Accommodation

The accommodation is usually in hotels ( 2 bed-room), except during some of the trekking days, where we sleep in a mountain huts (number of beds in room depends on availability).

Is food included with the tour?

On the tours breakfast is included. Other meals, like snacks, lunch and dinner on our tours are not included, because of the variety of tastes of our participants.
