What to Expect

This tour is designed for all nature and trekking lovers, made to combine all the interesting cultural sights with trekking in Durmitor, with ascent to the highest peak Bobotov Kuk 2523 m. Perhaps not for altitude junkies, however conquering Mt. Maglic (2386 m) is pretty demanding. But once you are on the top, you can expect some amazing views. Admiring the deepest canyon in Europe – the river Tara and go on a zip-line ride. Visiting the most famous Mostar bridge, the city of Sarajevo with the remarkable old bazaar Bascarsija and mysterious spiritual spot Piva monastery.

Itinerary

Day 1Sarajevo

At the evening, gathering of the passengers at a selected hotel in Sarajevo, with an option of organized transfer from a nearby airport.

Day 2Sarajevo - Foca - Durmitor / Trsa

Start of our tour in Sarajevo with the most important points, such as the Miljacka River with the site of the assassination of the Austro-Hungarian Crown Prince Franz Ferdinand, the renovated Vjecnica, now a cultural center, mosques. Of course, we will not miss the old bazaar Bascarsija with a labyrinth of streets, shops, artisan workshops and restaurants. However, we will have to leave Sarajevo and continue a ride along the Zeljeznica River and across the Rogoj saddle to Foca. There we will cross another border, the Bosnian-Montenegrin border. The last part of the route will take the picturesque mountain road above the Piva River to the hamlet of Trsa (1450 m) on Durmitor mountains.

Day 3Trsa - Prutas - Sedlo - Zabljak

Today we leave the high plateau and drive to the area of ​​Durmitor National Park, which is form with the area of ​​the Durmitor Mountains and the Tara River. The park has 48 peaks as high as 2,000 meters and 18 lakes, and the entire area of ​​the park is also under UNESCO protection. The tour to Prutas (2393 m) will start in Todorovo Dol and climb the saddle (2230 m) on a steep slope and then reach the top of the rocky and grassy scales. The summit is very scenic due to its location and also interesting because of the geological movements, which will be visible when descending the another path across the Gorge Skrcko (2114 m). The view extends from Cursed mountains, Biokovo to nearby Maglic. Total altitude difference of 550 meters and 4-5 hours of walking. A ride through Sedlo to Zabljak (1450 m).

Day 4Zabljak - Djurdjevic Tara / Savin Kuk - Lake Crno Jezero - Zabljak

This day will be dedicated to exploring the beauties of Durmitor National Park. After breakfast, we will first drive to the valley of the famous Tara, an extremely clean river, which is a paradise for rafters and kayakers. It runs in a canyon, some 1300 m deep. We will stroll into the famous Djurdjevica Tara bridge, 170 meters above River Tara, and the brave ones will be able to take a zip-line. A special experience will be rafting down the river and refreshments at the end. For those who prefer mountain climbs, an excursion to Sava Kuk will be organized. In two stages, the chairlift will take you to an altitude of almost 2200 meters, then is only a walk to the top. At the end of the day, we will also visit the Lake Crno Jezero, which reflects the dark woods and peaks of Durmitor.

Day 5Zabljak - Saddle - Bobotov Kuk - Black Lake - Zabljak

Drive along the already famous road to Saddle (1908 m) and follow the ascent to the third highest Montenegrin peak, the two highest in the borderlands of Prokletije on the Albanian border. The ascent will be via the Green Source Lake (2028 m) and the Velika Predija saddle (2351 m), where a longer path to the summit from Black Lake joins. The last part of the trail is protected by views of Lake Skrce and Prutas. From the top there is a beautiful view of the Black Lake, Sinjajevina, Komov and serrated Prokletije. For descent we will use the route across the Windy Hills. Total altitude difference of 600 m and 5 hours of walking. At the end of the day a ride to Zabljak.

Day 6Zabljak - Piva Monastery - Tjentiste

We will cross Durmitor once again via Trsa and descend into the valley to the dammed Piva River. In the middle of the last century, a 220 meter high dam was constructed for the Mratinje hydroelectric power plant. The medieval Piva Monastery would also be flooded by the lake. The monastery, which we are about to see, has been moved to a higher position stone by stone, while preserving more than 1000 square meters of mosaics. We will later cross the Montenegrin-Bosnian border and move to its enclave of Republika Srpska. We will have a shorter stop in Foca, which was an important traffic point. It is no longer far from Täntisht. The settlement is located in the heart of Sutjeska National Park, comprising the Maglic and Zelengora mountain ranges and the Perucica Forest Reserve. World War II was fought here in 1943 as part of the German offensive Schwarz / Battle of Sutjeska and the Partisan army succeeded in its breakthrough against Zelengora and Bosnia with great casualties. Day 7Tjentiste - Dragos Sedlo - Maglic - Trnovac Lake - Tjentiste

After an early breakfast, firstly drive to the Dragos saddle and the end of the road (1600 m), from where our view will open to the vast forests of Perucica, and our path will soon begin to climb steeply towards the highest peak of the country Maglic (2386 m). The route is partially secured and we will quickly gain altitude. From the summit, in fine weather, extensive views of the nearby and distant mountains will await us, especially Durmitor. For the descent we will choose the southern ridge, which descends towards the heart-shaped Trnovac Lake (1517 m) and lies on the Montenegrin side of the mountain. We will rest by the lake, because then we will have a climb towards our starting point. Altitude difference 1000 meters in total, walking for 8 hours. Return to Tjentiste.

Day 8Tjentiste - Zelengora / Bregoc - Nevesinje - Mostar

Drive over the Cemerno saddle (1293 m) towards the high plateau of Zelengora with some two thousand peaks. We will pass the springs of the Neretva River to the pass below Borovno Brdo (1700 m). From there we will start with our trip to Bregoc (2014 m), the trail runs through extensive pastures with herds of sheep. There is a 3-hour walk to the top and back to the starting point, and the altitude difference is 250 meters. We will continue our journey through Herzegovina to Gatacki and later the Nevesinje karst field to the Neretva valley, where there are some deposits of tombstones. A legacy of the Middle Ages Bogomils, and some sites are under UNESCO protection. We will stop at the picturesque spring of the Buna River and visit Mostar with its famous bridge and the oriental part of the city.

Day 9Mostar

On the last day, after breakfast, the tour ends and we say our farewells.

When is your tour booked and confirmed?

The tour is booked or reserved by paying an advance of 30% of the total amount on the account. After receiving the payment, we will send you a confirmation of payment.

What equipment do I need for trekking?

You will definitely need good (ankle high) hiking boots, trekking poles to support your knees, day backpack, some snacks and a light jacket.

Is the tour still on in case of rain?

That all depends on the weather forecast. If there is just some light rain we will still go on trekking. However, if it’s gonna be heavy rain, we will try to move trekking to another most convenient day. In either case, we constantly check weather forecast so we can arrange the best trip for you.

What is included?

In the price is included: all transportation under the program, accommodation with breakfast in hotels or mountain huts, entrance fees to cultural and natural sights, health insurance with assistance abroad, the organization of the trip and the Slovenian escort on the way, counseling and assistance in preparing for the trip, VAT.

Can I rent equipment?

You can rent equipment, but you need to inform us at least 21 days before the start of your program. Our trips are in remote areas where there are no shops or rental services, so we need to provide them from a distance. Please note that rental on the spot is usually not available.

What is NOT included?

In the tour are not included any meals other than breakfast, tips for the local population, extra for a single room, the cost of personal equipment and expenses and risk of cancellation.

Accommodation

The accommodation is usually in hotels ( 2 bed-room), except during some of the trekking days, where we sleep in a mountain huts (number of beds in room depends on availability).

Is food included with the tour?

On the tours breakfast is included. Other meals, like snacks, lunch and dinner on our tours are not included, because of the variety of tastes of our participants.
